Many common sink problems are best left to the hands of an experienced plumber. Certain issues are often basic enough that relative amateurs can resolve them. In this article, the Brooklyn Heights plumber Aladdin Plumbing will discuss two commonly encountered sink issues, and how to solve them yourself without much trouble. Loud Reverberating Sink
Stainless steel sinks are a popular choice, thanks to their durability and aesthetics. Unfortunately, they can also be prone to acoustic issues that do not affect sinks made of porcelain or other materials. The most common complaint here is that the sink tends to produce loud banging noises. This phenomenon is especially pronounced for those who own a sink with side-by-side basins.
The good news is that you can put the damper on this unwanted gong with little more than a can of spray foam. All you have to do is spray this foam into the crevice between the two basins. The foam will expand to fill up the entire gap, thus keeping the sides of the sink from vibrating loudly. Be sure to wear disposable rubber gloves when completing this task, as the foam may irritate those with sensitive skin.
Tangled Sprayer Hose
Sprayer hoses offer a wonderful way to rinse dishes and get at hard to reach parts of the sink. They can also be the cause of frustration, thanks to their tendency to catch on the supply valves beneath the sink. Fortunately, you can keep this from happening with little more than a couple of feet of pipe insulation–the kind with a slit along its length.
Simply cut a piece of insulation so that it is the same length as the supply hose and water valve, then slip it over the lines. This way the sprayer hose will not have anything on which to get tangled.
